Ellen Bernstein is a leader of Pastors for Peace, which has been fighting the U.S. government’s policies toward Cuba since 1992. She said:
We’re challenged the economic blockade, which we think for 50 years has been absolutely, unnecessarily, immorally, illegally, mean-spiritedly, pettily, foolishly, stupidly, counterproductively hurting the Cuban people.
Economic sanctions against Cuba should have ended decades ago, she said. See interview on the Cuba Money Project’s Vimeo channel.
The Cold War is over.
Yet the U.S. government has only tightened sanctions in recent years.
Bernstein contends that U.S. officials keep most Americans out of Cuba because they don’t want them to see the truth about Cuba. She said:
The reality here in Cuba is very different than we’ve been told in the United States. They want us to believe that Cuba is a prison for 11 million people and Fidel Castro is the devil and is going to eat little children for breakfast…
